Ride and Stride

The church was open 10am - 4pm for visitors, and we served refreshments to the 'weary' travellers.  The church was manned by Muriel and Kerris.  Our first visitor was a cyclist early in the day.  A couple of walkers, accompanied by friends travelling by car, visited in the afternoon.

Although we didn't have many Ride and Stride visitors, we did have a very interesting day.  This was because we had the South Cheshire Amateur Radio Society visiting us.  They were broadcasting Churches and Chapels on the Air 2010 , this was arranged to coincide with Heritage Day and Historic Churches Trusts’ events.  St Peter's had its own special event call sign.

Muriel and myself also had the opportunity to speak on the radio.  We spoke to Dorothy in Wigan, who used to be the Sunday School teacher of a church there.

A big thank you to the members for explaining how it works, both to us and to our visitors, and for putting St. Peter's church on the air waves.

Hope we can do it again next year!

4 October 2009 - FAMILY COMMUNION

The Gift of Time

This was a very interesting and happy service.  It reminded us that it is so important to give the 'gift of time' to children to help them develop.  It is also worth noting that spiritual things will be much harder to develop where children lack the loving support of their families.

Percussion instruments were handed to the congregation to accompany our singing; this was great fun.  We were also delighted to hear some of our younger members performing; singing, reading poetry...

Tea and lots of lovely cakes were served in the hall after the service.

Flower Festival 2009

3, 4 and 5 July

Flowers and Music

Roses

A very successful flower festival; some people have described it as the best they had ever seen.  The church was filled with beautiful displays, each one representing a different piece of music.  Delicious refreshments were served in the hall and the marquee.  The weather was sunshine and showers, and it was pleasantly warm.

On Friday there was a short opening service which was attended by the Cheshire East Mayor, Councillor Margaret Simon, and her Consort, husband Maurice.

Sue Beesley, BBC Gardener of the Year 2006, officially opened the Flower Festival at
2.00 pm on Friday 3rd July.

We were also very pleased to have a visit from Edward Timpson M.P. (Crewe and Nantwich) later in the afternoon.

A big thank you to the Crewe Amateur Musical Society, who delighted us all with their wonderful singing in the concert on Saturday evening.  "Songs from the Musicals" complimented the music theme of the flowers, and was very moving.

Thank you to all those who have worked so hard to make it such a magnificent occasion, and to all of our visitors for their support; we hope you all enjoyed your visit.

How sad I felt at
6.00pm on Sunday when it had finished, but I was soon lifted again when we had the evening Songs of Praise.  The Hymns where chosen by the congregation, and so they were all popular and heartily sung in the beautiful surroundings.
