Autumn Term 2007
Sunday

Jesse
(Advent) Tree
|

|
A
shoot will come up from the stump of Jesse; from his roots a
branch will bear fruit (Isaiah 11:1)
Jesse was the father of
King David. The Bible tells us that Jesus will be born of the
house of David. The
symbols trace Jesus’ family tree and tell us about God’s
dealings with people before sending his Son Jesus into the world
on the first Christmas.
“The Branch” is a biblical
sign of newness out of discouragement, which became a way to talk
about the expected Messiah (e.g.
Jer 23:5). The
Jesse Tree depicts the Old Testament and connects the Advent
Season with the faithfulness of God across 4,000 years of
history
The ornaments represent some of the
events from Creation to the Birth of Jesus, and have been made by
the Sunday school.

2 December - 1st Sunday in Advent
Thank you St Nicholas
for visiting us today. He told us about his life, and brought some special biscuits for our good children
(and grown ups).
Thank you to all those who brought a gift for a less
fortunate child. These gifts have been taken to St Paul's in
Salford.
Saint
Nicholas, Bishop of Myra
In
many lands Santa Claus is also known as Saint Nicholas. Around
1,650 years ago, Saint Nicholas was Bishop of Myra, a town in Asia
Minor which is now part of Turkey. He was called the “Boy
Bishop” because he was so young for such an important position.
Saint Nicholas became so famous for his kindness and goodness in
helping others that people made statues of him and painted his
picture on church windows all over Europe.
Now
he is remembered in many countries by lots of names, including
Sankt Nikolaus, father Christmas, Pere Noel, Kriss Kringle, Santa
Klaas, and Santa Claus.
